Firefighters from Ringwood, Fordingbridge and Eastleigh tackle landfill blaze at Alderholt Road, Somerley
RESIDENTS were told to keep their windows and doors closed as fire crews battled a large blaze at a New Forest landfill site.
Emergency services were called to the facility in Alderholt Road, Fordingbridge, at around 10.45pm yesterday (Monday).
Firefighters from Ringwood, Fordingbridge and Eastleigh attended and used plant machinery to turn over the burning waste and help tackle the blaze.
Crews are expected to remain on site for most of today in a “reduced presence” to dampen down waste to reduce the spread of the fire.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Fire and Rescue said crews were liasing with local residents to provide updates and reassurance.
It’s currently unknown what caused the blaze.
