What’s On: Bonnie and Clyde The Musical, Regent Centre, Christchurch
THE much loved Broadway hit show Bonnie and Clyde The Musical is coming to the stage at Christchurch Regent Centre.
The production tells the story of how two small-town kids from the middle of nowhere became the biggest folk heroes in the US. Bonnie and Clyde craved adventure – and each other.
Fearless, shameless and alluring, the cult-favourite Broadway musical has garnered a mass following, much like the infamous pair themselves. Now the Bournemouth based amateur theatre company Encore! are set to bring all the drama to Christchurch with the musical retelling of the unbelievable true story.
Bonnie and Clyde were two of American’s most notorious criminals who rose to fame in the 1930s, at the height of the Great Depression, when the American Dream seemed impossible to achieve. The musical explores the path that led Bonnie and Clyde to their life of crime, presenting them as love-struck antiheroes who were desperate to break out of poverty and make their mark on the world.
Hailed as an electrifying story of love, adventure and crime, which captured the attention of an entire nation, Bonnie and Clyde The Musical will be on stage on Friday 11th and Saturday 12th October. The show features music by Frank Wildhorn (Jekyll and Hyde, Scarlet Pimpernel) lyrics by Don Black (Sunset Boulevard, Starlight Express) and book by Ivan Menchell (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang).
The musical premiered on Broadway in 2011 and received a 2012 Tony Award nomination for Best Original Score. Since then, the show has cultivated a dedicated fan base with Encore! Theatre Productions becoming the first company to produce the musical in the Dorset area, following two successful runs in the West End.
Bonnie and Clyde The Musical will be on stage at Christchurch Regent Centre on 11th and 12th October. Tickets are from £19. For more information and bookings visit: www.regentcentre.co.uk or contact the box office on 01202 499199.
