New Forest Players set to take to the stage at Ballard Performing Arts Centre with their autumn production, Charade
NEW Forest Players will be back at Ballard Performing Arts Centre later this month for their autumn production, Charade, by playwright Janet Shaw.
The production features a cast of 15 and is directed by Len Reid.
The story is set in 1970, with Kate about to marry Steven on the romantic Greek island of Xantos. Their families haven’t met before arriving and, when they do meet, the two mothers hate each other on first sight, causing a volcanic clash of style and temperament.
Meanwhile, the two fathers are nowhere to be found and when the bride’s aunt Issie arrives, the skeletons begin falling out of the cupboards at an alarming rate.
It’s been 25 years since the Second World War ended, but ghosts from the past reveal a trail of heartbreak and discovery for both families.
This bittersweet adult comedy is full of humour and pathos, which will have the audience laughing and crying – perhaps even at the same time. The play bears no resemblance to the 1963 film of the same title.
The production is the second show Reid has directed by playwright Shaw. During the run of One Day I’ll Fly Away in April 2023, Janet surprised the company by coming along to watch.
Charade will be performed by New Forest Players at Ballard Performing Arts Centre from Wednesday 30th October to 2nd November.
Tickets are £14 with discounts available for group bookings. For more information and bookings visit www.newforestplayers.com or call the box office on 01425 542414.
